Converting CRP Land to Corn: Minimizing Soil Loss
(A3830)
With the increased demand for ethanol, it's possible that more Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) land may be pressed into corn production as contracts expire, leaving it vulnerable to soil loss. Authors John Panuska, Laura Ward Good, and Richard Wolkowski evaluated soil loss for nine combinations of corn rotation and tillage practices on a variety of erodible soils. If you're considering converting to corn production, find out which systems experienced the least soil loss and how to evaluate potential losses for your site.
